I'm a dedicated and passionate music educator with over twenty years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels. In 2011, I graduated with honors form the Aaron Copland School of Music, City University of New York at Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and was the recipient of the Lawrence Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music Achievement Award. State certified in music education in New Jersey and in New York, I have experience teaching one on one and in the classroom. In addition, I've been a professional recording and touring artist for over two decades with 22 CD's released by international record labels to my credit. I have a private teaching studio that is fully equipped with the latest teaching tools and technology.
I began teaching at the Long Island Drum Center in 1990 and was the youngest instructor ever added to their ranks alongside their world renown faculty. Since then, I have taught hundreds of students in many locations in New Jersey and in New York. I have participated in drum clinics, been interviewed by major drum publications, and am a member of the Vic Firth Education Program. As a member of the National Association for Music Educator, I’m committed to staying up to date with all the latest findings in the field of music education. Many of my students have participated in recitals, won awards, and some of have gone on to become music teachers themselves which is one of my greatest rewards.
I use a variety of method books depending upon the needs, interests, and the age of the student. My vast collection of method books is an endless resource of proven pedagogical approaches that I employ in my practice. In recent years, I’ve began using play along CD’s that are combined with tempo controlling software so that students can slow musical excerpts down and hear themselves playing along with professional musicians. This makes practicing a lot more fun and beneficial. I encourage my students to record and listen to themselves on a regular basis to develop their own critical listening skills.
I'm a caring and compassionate teacher that tailors my lessons to accommodate each student's level of interest and ability. I set realistic goals for my students so they may achieve regular success in their studies. Learning to play a musical instrument is hard work and yet, it should also be fun. Finding the perfect balance between the two seeming opposites is how I keep my students motivated and working towards getting better. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than when one of my students overcomes an obstacle or breaks through a barrier. The pride they feel in their accomplishment and the excitement in their faces is a constant reminder of why I love to teach.
