Overview:

I enjoy sharing my love of music with others. Trumpet is my main instrument. From playing before small groups at school, performing as National Anthem Soloist for the NFL, to performing for governors and the president of the United States, I have been blessed to have been part of many remarkable musical experiences. Let me help you become the musician you want to be. Relax, think, and enjoy playing your instrument. I'll be your a coach and a resource to help you achieve your goals.

EXPERIENCE

I began playing trumpet in 5th grade. I enjoyed band throughout high school and decided to become a music teacher.  I joined the Army National Guard band in Denver, Colorado and remained a part-time musician in three National Guard bands throughout my 36-year career. My last year was spent leading a ceremonial band in a record number of performances in Iraq. I've taught band for 23 years, working with students from grades 5 through 12. I've taught college and adult musicians. I will take the time to listen to your musical goals and help you achieve them. If you are just beginning, welcome to the wonderful world of music making! If you already play and desire to take your skills to the next level, I'll be happy to help you.

METHODS USED

We will work together to choose the best method books for your study. We will also team up in selecting solo literature to play. If you are in a school music program, we will also make sure to include any method books or music your are currently studying. I really enjoy blending what we work on with what you are doing in your school band. Setting up your own practice "studio" and getting your practice routine will be a priority. I'll be happy to come to you, you can come to my music studio, or we can work via Skype.

LESSON STYLE

Your musical growth is the most important thing. I try not to talk too much at our lessons. Most of the time I will show you what to do, help you learn how to do it and then let you practice the new skill(s) all week for our next lesson. Consistent effort is the key, both for you and for me. You'll need to practice and I need to keep things comfortable, challenging and enjoyable for you. If you are a student in school, my greatest joy is to help you master all of the material for your success in band class. If you are an amateur who loves to play your horn, I will feed the fire of your inspiration and keep you going. I'm here to serve you and while I do expect you to practice, we will both work to make sure you are enjoying your progress.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
