Overview:
I'm a passionate and dedicated teacher who loves working with students of all ages and levels. I completed my Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Southern California in 2009, and since then I have been an active teacher and performer all over Southern California. I have performed at many different venues across the Los Angeles area, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, and have appeared with many different groups including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida.
EXPERIENCE
I bring a wealth of teaching experience to my students, including teaching students of different ages at many different levels. I have taught private students at the beginning, intermediate, and college level as well as coached brass students at several middle schools and high schools throughout southern California, and I currently maintain a private teaching studio. In addition to private one-on-one lessons, I am also experienced in conducting group lessons and sectionals where students can explore the joy of playing with other students at their level.
METHODS USED
Typically I like to emphasize fundamentals for my students since solid fundamentals is a foundation for everything else and is something that needs to be constantly maintained and can always be improved regardless of the student's level. In addition, I also take into account what the student is interested in and try to work on music that is engaging, fun, and within the ability level of the student. I use a variety of different method books to suit the need of the student as well as methods and exercises of my own.
LESSON STYLE
I have a relaxed teaching style which emphasizes positive encouragement and musical enjoyment. I tailor each student's lesson according to their level of playing, musical preferences, strengths, and areas which can use improvement. I set goals for my students that are both challenging and realistic, and I like to be a positive and encouraging mentor for them as they develop and improve at their own pace. I like to acknowledge the student's success while encourage them in areas that can still use more work.
