ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
MAT, University of the Arts, Music Education- BA, University of Vermont, Music Theory/Composition- MA, Middlebury College, Spanish Language
Overview:
I am a dedicated musician and educator that seeks to expand my students' abilities of self expression through music. I graduated from University of Vermont with a double major in Music Theory/Composition and Spanish. I am continuing my studies with a Master's of Arts in Teaching from University of the Arts. I also hold an MA in Spanish language from Middlebury College where I was very active in playing live music for the co-curricular dance program, poetry nights, and studied the intersection of music and linguistics. I am versed in many different styles of music; I have studied Klezmer music with some of the greats at KlezKamp and KlezKanada. I studied and performed Middle-Eastern music with master violinist and composer Anwar Diab Agha. I look forward to getting to share some of my knowledge and talents with future students.
EXPERIENCE
I have been studying and playing music since I was 7. I began on saxophone in my school's concert band and jazz band proceded by my own musical endeavors on electric bass playing rock and jazz music. I spent high school gigging Philadelphia with The Paisley Haze Quintet. In my undergrad studies at University of Vermont, I picked up the upright bass, studying both jazz and classical styles. I became heavily active in the Burlington, VT music scene performing with such groups as: The Object Three, Nuevos Comediantes, Divine Lorraine, Anna Pardenik and the Holy Smoke-Off, Brass Balagan, Duke Aeroplane and the Wrong Numbers, and Grup Anwar. For three years I lead the Spielpalast Cabaret Band and composed and arranged music for a new musical theatre production each year.
METHODS USED
In my lessons I integrate music theory with instrumental technique as I feel that comprehension of the music is essential to better performance and developing better musicianship. I will work with students to help them learn repertoire that they are interested in and excited about as well as serving them their healthy music vegetables to help them develop as musicians. There are several methods books that I like to work with; Simandl's New Method for Double Bass, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, and George Vance's Progressive Repertoire.
LESSON STYLE
I approach my lessons with enthusiasm and acumen. We will work together at a rigorous yet achievable pace in order to progress on your instrument. I will connect instrumental methods with your own musical interests in order to engage and delight you in the material. We will track progress in a practice journal so that we can keep track of goals and progress. Lessons will combine instrumental technique with music theory, ear training, improvisation, and composition to become a well rounded and versatile musician. -

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
