Venezuelan Native, I am a modern and baroque flutist with a passion for bringing classical music to nontraditional places. My mission is to make classical music accessible and relatable to those who might not otherwise experience it. I currently serve as the Vice President of the Texas Flute Society. I really enjoy collaborating in numerous chamber music projects. Through my teaching, recitals, and projects I bring to life the music of underrepresented composers. I am widely sought-after as a clinician, adjudicator, masterclass teacher, and performer both as a modern and baroque flutist. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music currently working on my Doctorate in Musical Arts in Flute Performance with Dr. Mary Karen Clardy. When not performing or researching for my next upcoming project, I enjoy spending time taking care of my plants, watching Netflix, and raising awareness for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons and running sectionals at the conservatory in my hometown. I have been consistently teaching students since either in my home studio, or at different private and public institutions. I have held different faculty positions in colleges in the past 6 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
I like to tailor my lessons and teaching methods to the skills and age of the player. I usually will put together a bundle exercises compile of flute methods and exercises I create myself to help the student progress. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For Adults, I find music that is of their interest.
My teaching philosophy closely aligns with my research experiences as well as my own professional experience as a performer and pedagogue. I focus on regular performance and exposure to a wide range of topics, repertoire and ideas, allowing for intersection with other disciplines. Influence and inspiration can come from unexpected sources, and I foster that potential in my students. My lessons include discussions of style as well as body awareness while playing. With a background in Body Mapping, Pilates, and Yoga, I strive to incorporate these methods into my teaching to prevent performance injuries. I strongly believe in developing independent musicians. As a teacher, privately or in masterclasses for modern and baroque flute, I incorporate my mission to teach artistry and accessibility to music.
