I teach healthy vocal technique in any genre at every level. If you can produce sound, I can teach you how to sing. In addition to singing seriously for 15+ years and taking private voice lessons since the age of 12, in 2018 I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance, and in 2016 I graduated from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Vocal Performance emphasis. I perform frequently both internationally and locally. Last summer I made my Mexican debut as Suor Angelica in Suor Angelica with the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia. I enjoy a career in both teaching voice and performing.
Teaching voice is a huge passion of mine. I have enjoyed passing along the training and experience I have gained in the field to all of my gifted students. My training and education, rooted in the classical technique, allows me a deep understanding and knowledge of the voice as an instrument and how it can be manipulated to increase vocal range and stamina, enhance vocal quality, and improve unique vocal strengths and skills. I believe strongly in cross training and giving my students the tools and resources needed to practice on their own and assess their own voice in order to improve more efficiently and quickly. My main goal as a teacher is to help my students sing in whatever genre they are interested in with their true, natural voice in a healthy way that allows longevity. Once a student truly understands their voice, that confidence will take them to the next level, whatever that may be!
Strong vocal development is rooted in an extensive understanding of healthy technique. Depending on the level and age of the student we will spend anywhere from a third to half of the lesson working on vocal exercises, which will aid in the student's foundation of developing a strong technical background. The remainder of the lesson will be spent working on repertoire. Repertoire assignments will depend greatly on the student's goals and desires. Repertoire selections can include building an audition package, diversifying genres and styles, and simply aiding in technical development. While my main focus is on vocal technique and selecting repertoire that aids in that development, I also coach students on music they are already singing in professional environments, school productions, community engagements, etc.
My approach to teaching is very dependent on the student. From matching energy levels to providing different teaching techniques based on the student's learning style, from the 75+ students of varying learning types and ages I have taught over the years, I have learned how to adapt to each student's needs and execute varying teaching techniques effectively. My only requirement in my studio is that my students practice and come to their lessons prepared. Student's simply will not improve without regular and consistent practice. I provide all of my students with the tools, resources and knowledge they need to practice with efficiency and awareness.
