Do you want to learn how to play guitar? Beginner to advance tutor available! My name is Garret and I have had the passion for playing music since I was 6 years old. I now want to help others learn to grow their passion. I am from Toms River, NJ. I grew up listening and playing music since is I was a young child and I haven't given it up since! Music has provided me with such happiness my entire life and I believe it can do this for others as well! I believe one on one classes can help you advance your guitar capabilities!
My experience is based on my dedication to music and how I have given most of my life to it. When I was a child I didn't play sports but rather I played guitar for hours a day. While going through middle school and high school I played six hours a day because I love to play so much. I know how to play bass drums and piano as well. I learned music theory on my own and eventually went down the road of learning how to engineer music on a beginners level as well. Growing up I also played in many bands in which I had the opportunity to play at the Stone Pony, the same place Bruce Springsteen grew up playing.
For first learners I like to focus on the basic stepping stones of playing guitar as well as find more about my student in regards to their music preference as well as what they find enjoyable about learning an instrument. Learning an instrument should be fun and gratifying so it is important for a student to be happy learning rather than feel like it is a chore. Positive reinforcement gets way more results than negative reinforcement. I always gauge my methods based on the students ability. I truly believe every student has the ability to become great guitarists and musicians.
In regards to my teaching style, I tend to tailor it to the individual. Strict method adherence can leave students suffering. I do not teach using sheet music as I have inabilty to read myself. I do not believe sheet music makes a great player. I do believe it is a skill but it absolutely does not hinder the ability to become an amazing guitar player. In fact, a lot of the biggest guitarist cannot read music. I teach my students to use their ears to guide them through learning. I give them the ability to experiment and work outside the box. In my experience, this has lead to far greater musicianship rather than strictly focusing on sheet music. On the other hand, music theory plays a role as well. I teach music theory in regards to approaching the guitar. Once the student has understanding of this approach they will realize they will be able to apply this not only to guitar but too many other instruments and songwriting as well.
