I am a graduate of Yerevan Conservatory. I earned a Bachelors and a Masters in Music. I am an exceptionally experienced pianist with a background that includes: international competition, performances with European symphony orchestras and teaching music in Russia, Norway and USA. I am a member of MTAC: Music Teacher's Association of California. I can both prepare students for merit certificate and competition and for just a simple enjoyment of piano playing. I am fluent in Russian and Armenian.
I have been teaching music for the last 17 years. I teach ages from 10 to adult. My music teaching incorporates Russian classical methods and the best traditions of Russian piano performance school. I also incorporate pop, rock and jazz into students' curriculum. It is important for me to know that my student is enjoying the lesson. I encourage my student to enter competitions and recitals so they can feel good about their achievements. I also remind my student that practice will improve their technique.
I develop an individual curriculum based on student's needs, ability and level of advancement. Since I do teach adults, I also schedule lessons to fit their life style. Depending of what the student wants, I do develop an individualized lessons. I do believe that beginners do need an introduction to basic music knowledge and methods. For children, I start with basics. For adults, I first try to determine their level of ability and interest and then customize music lessons based on my determination and student's wishes.
With any new student, I first get to know what the student likes and what they would like to accomplish with their music lessons. I am caring and supportive teacher. My style of teaching is based on two principles: guidance and encouragement. I strive to set realistic goals for each of my students, My experience shows that students do best when they are encouraged and nurtured. I also try to pass my love of music to my students. I always remind them that one can enjoy music not only through actual playing, but just simply listening to it.
