Overview:
I am a passionate musician "from the womb". I've sang since I was 4-years-old and began official training in school at 11-years-old. I started playing the violin just the year before that. I graduated with a worship leadership degree free Visible Music College in Memphis, Tennessee in 2020. I began lessons for piano my senior year of high school, and I continued training for about 2 years during in college. I have participated in All-State conventions in Florida and I have taught music lessons in Nepal, Ghana, and the Czech Republic as well. I am now married with two beautiful children, and my husband and I lead worship at our current church. I love music, but more than that, I love teaching music - helping others understand and also giving others confident in their abilities and skills as well!
EXPERIENCE
I began officially teaching music in 2015 with the Salvation Army here in Memphis, Tennessee. I've taught beginner violin and piano lessons with the Salvation Army, and I have a few private violin students of my own currently. As much as I love music, I love explaining concepts and giving my students confidence in their field of music, whether that is in voice, instrument, or writing. It is very important to be well equipped, but also confident in one's abilities and skills. That way one is able to seize opportunities as well as create opportunities for themselves and others!
METHODS USED
All of my lessons will begin with listening to the student to understand where they are currently in their skill level. We will then spend time learning (or reviewing) the basics and correcting any issues at the core of the study, such as breathing or posture. We will go over the basics thoroughly to make sure that there is understanding and consistency in practice. We will then move on to warm up exercises while discussing the importance of these exercises. We will also study scales, and then slowly introduce selected music and songs to learn and develop different techniques.
LESSON STYLE
My desire is to see my students fall more and more in love with their voice and to continue to grow - even beyond where I can take them! With my teaching, I will walk alongside the student at whatever point or level they are at to help them achieve each goal that is set. One big life motto that I keep is "One step at a time". One step at a time is how you get where you are desiring and aiming to go. Yes, this may seem slow or get a little frustrating, especially when you are not where you'd like to be at the moment. But, we will keep checkpoints for each step, answer all questions, and work out every kink until we get where we want to be!
