My teaching experience dates back to my high school years when I was teaching music theory and bass guitar to unprivileged children in Colombia. I kept teaching for 2 years until I decided to move on in my career and looked for new challenges outside my country. That is when I decided to move to the United States and pursue my career in Music which led me to attend Berklee College of Music where I kept developing my craft and found my passion for sharing the knowledge. From my experience at Berklee and working as a professional musician, I have learned that practice, self-discipline, passion and curiosity are the key elements I like to emphasize for younger students, as it helps to develop the motivation behind learning music and to play any instrument. I encourage my students to open their ears and expose themselves to any music styles because I think all of us can learn from it, and apply things we like to our own music. The final goal is to have fun, enjoy ourselves through playing music and sharing our passion for this art form while connecting with others.
It doesn't matter if you are a very beginner or advanced player, my approach will always aim to develop a fun and stress-free environment where we both can explore music in the way you want. I will provide material to develop your technique, time feel, sound, accuracy, groove foundation and development of interesting bass lines. I also focus on developing critical listening skills that will help you in learning new songs/repertoire and also playing in an ensemble setting. For those who are also interested in recording their music and bass lines, I can also introduce you to the basics of recording techniques and skills to create the music you want.
Throughout my experience, I have found out that there is no more rewarding feeling than seeing my students develop their love for music and for the instrument they play. That same wonderful feeling I had when I was playing my bass for the very first time, is what I try to share with my students no matter their level. I encourage my students to embrace their own process of learning music and most importantly find their motivation and putting the work that is necessary to achieve their own goals with the instrument and in music. Each lesson will be structured based on your personal goal and your musical tastes making the process motivating, challenging but most importantly fun.
