I am a fun and easy going instructor who loves working with students of all ages. I graduated from London College of Creative Media in 2018 with a degree in performance and production. I also have a certificate in guitar. Performing in Europe was one of my greatest experiences while living overseas. I also sang in the LCCM gospel choir and won the first place at the University Gospel Choir of the Year in 2015. I am passionate about music and hope to share my love to any student looking to learn and further their education in music.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience began in 2011. A friend of mine had bought a guitar and did not know a single thing about the instrument. he asked me if I could teach him how to play. After a few weeks of methods that I taught him and, exercises he was able to play the guitar without frustration. I always tell my students when they are starting out to give themselves at least 15 minutes a day to keep up on exercises to build up muscle memory. I usually have students tell me what kind of music they like and focus on that style. When a student has a personal connection with a style of music they are more engaged and interested. Once they are comfortable with the playing aspect I involve teaching the theory behind it. The theory helps cement the information and lets them grow as musicians.
METHODS USED
I believe that music a personal experience. When faced with a new student I always ask them what type of music they are into and what are they interested in learning and how that type of music makes them feel. It is a critical part of my teaching method. I believe when a student is learning something they have a personal connection to they are more engaged. For beginner students I have them do exercises and teach them about various scales. I create my own custom lesson plan for each student because everyone learns at a different rate.
LESSON STYLE
I love it when I see a student smiling because of their hard work and dedication to their instrument. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at her or his own pace. I always encourage my students to start slow and to not get frustrated. From personal experience there are times when I have been learning a song and work on it day in and day out and it seems like there is no progression in sight. Taking deep breaths and playing a song slowly and not getting frustrated is the key in becoming a better musician. I have seen a lot of success in my students when I tell them this information. By trying to find out what inpires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs
