I enjoy teaching students of all ages from beginner to advanced levels. I specialize in the genres of Funk, Blues, R&B, Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop, Rock, Pop, Metal, Latin, Classical, Country, Electronica and more! Learning about music is an exciting adventure that has no boundaries. My studio is fully equipped with only the best gear for you to enjoy. I currently reside in Boulder, CO where I'm a music teacher, performer, and producer. I also travel internationally teaching bass guitar, recording with various artists, and directing my band, The George Lacson Project.
I began my musical journey at age 2 with my first gig, sitting in on percussion while on a family vacation, at Hilton Head Island. SC. At age 8, I began formal studies on the violin and viola with the school orchestra, winning several state and regional awards. It wasn't until age 17 that I discovered the bass guitar and immediately starting playing in bands with my friends. In college, I continued my absorption of musical knowledge with Music Theory, Music History, and Bass Performance from the University of Colorado, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Master's Degree from the Berklee College of Music. Over the past few years I've been a guest Instructor at Summer UCamps, Performing Arts Camp for Students grades 3-12. I've studied personally with world renowned Victor Wooten and have been nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for bass performance on Blues Legend John Lee Hooker Jr's Album "All Odds Against Me". Since 2006, I have toured internationally in Europe, Central America, Africa, Caribbean Islands, Scandinavia, Canada, and North America, sharing the stage with B.B.King, Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top, and more.
I have provided students, of all ages, with a realization that anyone can play music. My background as a teacher and performer has given me the ability to share over two decades of experience with his students. I like to get to know my students goals and musical history (if any) before we meet. This gives me an opportunity to know where they're coming from and what they would like to learn. My goal is to keep the lessons fun so that they are motivated to practice and play music. Typically, I like to find out my student's favorite songs and learn how to play them. Otherwise, I can also choose music based on the student's interests.
I would describe my teaching style as easy-going and fun. I know that there's a broad spectrum of styles that can apply to the way a student learns, but I find that getting to know the student first is key. Once I know the student's interests, we can start to learn how to play right away, and it's much more fun when they can learn a song that is familiar. From the first lesson, we establish realistic goals that can be achieved through periodic, consistent lessons. I do my best to have fun at each lesson, while keeping the student challenged and motivated.
