I am an instructor who loves to see their students succeed and achieve there goals. To be able to witness a student learn something they had not known before is one of the most satisfying feelings so every lesson I make sure my students learn at least one new thing no matter how simple. I graduated from Rutgers University with A degree in Jazz Guitar Performance but play multiple instruments including bass, piano, and ukulele. I have been playing music for about 20 years and Have experience playing in a wedding band, jazz ensembles, rock groups, and solo performances.
EXPERIENCE
My experience as a teacher began in 2016. I began with four students and gained more via word of mouth. During my final year of college, I worked at South Jersey Conservatory of Musical Arts and have been building a studio ever since. Throughout my years as an instructor, I have found that consistency is the key to progression. Progression, especially for children, helps keep the student motivated and gives them a sense of achievement. I have also found that teaching others the music they want to play is the best way to learn. Teaching has become a passion of mine as much as playing has and I look forward to working with students of all ages!
METHODS USED
For Guitar beginners I start with the Mel Bay guitar book one that has been around for years now. For piano I use Alfred's book. I have students use the book from these publishers according to their age. As a younger student progresses through the books, I begin to choose solo repertoire that are appropriate for their skill level. I also love to teach students songs they want to learn. One of the most important things for a young student is to LISTEN to music and find out what they like. For adults I will get an idea of what they like and base my instructions accordingly. I find this method to lead to fun and engaging lessons that the student looks forward too.
LESSON STYLE
One of my goals as a teacher is to make sure my students learn one new thing every week! Whether it be a concept about reading notes on a staff or figuring out how to play there first chord. Each student progresses at a different pace so my method for teaching one student how to read notes depends on how much they can at a time. If a specific concept is more difficult for a certain student there are plenty of goals to be achieved in the journey of grasping that concept. Seeing students meet their goals, no matter how small, is essential to my teaching style!
