I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from La Universidad Católica Cecilio Acósta in Venezuela with a Bachelor degree in Musicology. Performing In the orchestral/classical world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to performance as a drummer and keyboard player in multiple rock, jazz and reggae concerts. I have 10 years of experience as a musician and composer with deep knowledge in music theory and orchestration. I am expert at any service related to music/audio production, scores and sound design. I speak Spanish and English fluently.
My teaching experience started In my first job back in 2014, when I was a choir director and music teacher in percussion and music initiation In the Orchestral and Choir system for Children and Teenagers Fundamusical Simón Bolivar known as "El sistema" from Venezuela. Since them, I,ve been constantly teaching public and private lessons to children and teenagers of all ages. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the drum or the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn.
For beginners I intent to teach the main guidelines of the instrument such as its properties, history and basic techniques to play properly. Then, I proceed to show them the fundamentals of the instrument such as scales and rhythm exercises to start. I always try to Introduce new lessons with a little bit of music theory tips to help them understand what they are doing, I reinforce this strategy by teaching them written music. Once the student has progressed, I start teaching different styles and solo repertoire. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep to accomplish their goals.
I am a strict teacher and I try to keep a rhythm with all my students, however, I understand that not everybody has the same skills, time or motivation. Reason why I try to go to their own pace but demanding the best of them at the same time. Furthermore, I provide new lessons or exercises regardless they have practiced or no to encourage them to study at least one hour everyday. I like to add some pressure in the learning process but I am very friendly and enjoyable. As a percussionist, one of my main subjects is precision and punctuality.
Giovanni is a nice teacher, very patient and experienced. He is flexible on date and time, he also teach at my own pace, which is a big benefit for me. I enjoy the online classes with Giovanni.
