I am a conductor, tubist, and baritone; a musician with tenacity and passion and has been making music for over 17 years. As an avid performer, vocal coach, and conductor I have enjoyed a musical career on multiple continents. I received my Bachelors of Music in Performance with a duel specialization in voice and tuba, from the University of West Florida, studying with Dr. Sheila Murphy-Dunn, and Dr. Joseph T. Spaniola. I received my Masters of Music in Performance, with secondary studies in Orchestral Conducting from Ball State University, under the tutelage of Dr. Kathleen Maurer.
I began my teaching career during my studies at UWF, where I was brought on as Instructor of Music at Olive Baptist School of Performing Arts, here I taught guitar, brass, and voice. I have also been on the staff at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp since 2011, where I spent two summers as the vocal coach for the International Choir Ensemble of the Blue Lake International Exchange Program. I have also worked as a private instructor, elementary school brass clinician, and interim director working with choirs, bands, and orchestras.
As a Vocalist, my recent engagements include La Boheme with Projekt Opera, Concert engagements with Indianapolis Opera, a European tour with the Blue Lake International Choir and Orchestra, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp staff, A Little Night Music with the Chickasaw Civic Theatre, Rigoletto with the Pensacola Opera, Gianni Schicchi, The Old Maid and the Thief, and Werther with BSU Opera Theatre, to name a few.
As a Tubist, I have primarily performed in smaller Chamber appearances, as well as performing as tubist and trombonist with the East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra. In addition, I have also studied Instrumental Conducting with Richard Glaze, Leonard Atherton, Doug Droste, and Michael Klaue of the Hamburg Conservatory.
In the arena of voice I teach in the Bel Canto method focusing on building a strong musical and vocal foundation. That being said, in all instruments and styles of music that I teach I believe in tailoring the method to the needs and interests of the student. With all styles I believe in creating a solid foundation in reading and understanding music, as well as creating a strong and healthy technique as is pertinent to the instrument in question. I believe that health and safety to the body as it relates to the instrument, voice & other musculature, is paramount to the successful growth as a musician.
It is extremely important that a student enjoy their musical experience and studies, however, this takes hard work, dedication, & focus. Music is one of the hardest disciplines to study and perfect, however, it is attainable to all. I believe in approaching every students journey in the individual capacity that is their instrument and their learning style. I will combine their interests and goals with building a strong musical and technical foundation. These two avenues combined, with daily work on the students part, will guarantee success and a lifelong enjoyment.
