International Tour with Alejandro Sanz (2015-2017) 2014- Carnegie Hall Performance with Paquito De Rivera Big Band and Ensemble
I am a motivated music teacher, and active performer. I love inspiring and working with students. Music is one of the most important gifts we can share with others. I am from Havana, Cuba, where I began my musical studies at age 7 and began performing with my parents' music ensemble at age 10. At 15 , received an invitation to participate at an international piano competition in Toronto, and won a scholarship from the Royal Conservatory of Music , toronto 1998. Went on to continue my Bachelor's and Masters Degree , which I completed in 2009. 2010 I decided to record an independent music album and since then have been performing, teaching and touring.
I began teaching private lessons at age 18 while completing my bachelor's degree , I began teaching at the Yamaha School of Music in Toronto. I encourage my students to practice and do the homework, but what is truly important also is that they enjoy and feel the love for learning music. This allows them to feel creative and express themselves. Discipline is very important. Motivation, dedication and freedom need to be kept in balance when learning music. We need to make sure it is not a thing we have to do, but rather a thing we want to do.
It is important to assess each student's desire, preference, likes, levels and interest. According to each students' needs and wants, then I like to offer what I think they can benefit from and what they should learn to achieve the results they would like to see. Structure, discipline, dedication, fun, creativity, love and inspiration. Every person is different, therefore we as teachers need to adjust and be observant of each one's development, speed in learning, approach, interest and engagement.
