2020-2022 - University of Colorado Boulder Graduate Teaching Assistantship
I'm a solo and collaborative pianist and music teacher. In 2020, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music Cum Laude in Piano Performance from Rice University Shepherd School of Music. I joined the College of Music for my Master's degree in Fall 2020, studying Collaborative Piano. I have been a recurring prizewinner in MTNA competitions and made my international debut in 2016, playing Mozart Concerto K. 466 with orchestra from my the Universidad de Alicante in Perugia, Italy. Today, I perform frequently each year and play an extensive repertoire of contemporary and classical music.
I became a teacher because I believe everyone holds unique gifts and creative ideas. I want to encourage and guide every individual I teach to feel confident in their gifts and apply them to music! I believe music is such a joy to be shared to the world, and we all have the potential to share it. I started teaching private lessons in 2017, and I found it so rewarding that I have continued teaching ever since. I encourage each student to practice regularly and like to meet at consistently weekly intervals so that each student makes progress.
For beginning adults and teenagers, I like to use Faber Adult Piano Adventures to teach the fundamentals. I complement these studies with other pieces according to each student's taste and technical needs. For very young children, I like to use Music for Little Mozarts and for older children, I use Faber Piano Adventures. I also compose for each student based on skills I believe they could benefit from practicing. I teach every student music theory, using Alfred Essentials Music Theory workbooks. After students move on from method books, I like to give them a varied assortment of classical, jazz, and contemporary music.
Music is one of the highest arts we have, often described as a universal language. I hope my teaching encourages students towards forming their own answers for "why?" and helping them to discover the "how" with every piece of music they work with. Together with my students, I want to help them find a higher purpose for the act of preparation, practice, study, and performance, so that these come from a genuine place. I want to create a welcoming environment for all students regardless of identity, background, or experience.
Patient and caring instructor for my daughter! I love working with Grace!
