Bachelor Degree: DePaul University
I started lessons at the age of 3 and have been active in music ever since. I was in the band in high school, and the piano ensemble during college. I graduated with High Honors from DePaul University with a BA in Music and have been teaching individual music lesson ever since. I have always had a strong love of music in all of it's forms and I look forward to sharing my love of music with my students everyday. The best part about music is being able to share all of it's mental, emotional, and physical benefits with others.
I have been teaching private music lesson for 5 years and have several loyal and dedicated students. My students participate in two performances each year, which I arrange. Our last recital was focused on the student's performing their own compositions that we wrote together in our lessons. Students should be able to play the music they enjoy, but are also encouraged to expland their horizons to new and different genres. I believe music lessons should be enjoyable experiences that the student looks forward to each week.
I believe it is important to teach to the individual. Each student will require a different path to success and therefore, I will choose the method that best fits with their learning style, personality and interests. In addition, it is important to rememeber that many students are successful with their own guided learning plan instead of following a book. However, there are also students who thrive with the step by step stylized learnin plan only a method can provide. I believe flexibility in the teacher is the most important factor when it comes to methods.
Learning music entails much more than just playing a song. I am sure to incorporate theory, ear training, history, technique, and performance skills into the learning process. The goal is to teach the student to be a well-rounded musician and develop all of the skills needed to understand and fully enjoy the entire musical experience. In order to keep lessons fun, I will incorporate small rewards and am always welcoming of jokes and humor as long as our learning stays on track. I am also certain that the student enjoys at least some of the material during each lesson.
