First of all, I love the Classical Guitar. I believe it to be one of the most (if not the most) expressive instruments in classical music. I’ve had this intense love with the instrument since high school. Sharing my passion for the instrument and its music has been one of my dreams since I began playing. Currently, I’m working on finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance at UNO under Dr.Jay Kacherski. After that, I plan to get my master’s degree. During the summers I go to the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute where I study with some of the greatest classical guitarists in the world, The Romeros, who have a performing career paralled by no one else. It has been immensely insightful, and I hope to help pass their amazing insight to my students, in technique and musical phrasing.
I’ve been a performing Classical Guitarist since high school, which is where my love for the instrument really began to blossom. When I got to College, the choice to study Classical Guitar was obvious to me. I love this instrument, it’s one of the most expressive instruments to exist in classical music. I’ve studied at SLU and UNO under Mr.Kerber and Dr.Kacherski. I’ve personally studied under Pepe Romero, a world class musician who has won countless grammies. I’ve performed solo and ensemble recitals in several states across the US. I’ve also studied personally with Celino and Lito Romero members of the elite classical guitar quartet “The Romeros”. I’ve performed masterclasses for The Romeros as well as other massive names in the Classical Guitar world such as: Martha Masters, Matthew Denman & Matt Palmer. Whatever level the student finds themselves at I can share many of the lessons I’ve learned from these masters to my students.
Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. After getting a grasp on where the student is we will begin looking for repertoire that I can find for them. Typically I will supply the music for free.
The most important thing for any musician at any level is love. I know and respect this immensely. My studies will focus on helping my student find their passion for the instrument. I aim to challenge my students in a doable way, and help them technically and expressively. My teaching style is pliable and I easily find a good way of connecting to my students. With all the resources I have at my disposal, I know that I can get through to any student and help them on their path of becoming a successful musician.
Had several lessons with Graham so far. He really knows how to compliment the things that I do well and has a great way of telling me the things that I should work on. He loves music as a whole, so if you share that same love, Graham would be a great choice for you.
Great guy! Helped me a lot!
