Course Work: Ball State University
I am a passionate and driven music instructor that loves encouraging and developing students who love the drums and music. I will be graduating in 2023 from Ball State University with a degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Marketing. I have performed in many settings like church worship teams, large orchestra school bands, music camps and large outside concerts. Being able to instruct students who are striving to develop and grow in their skills makes me the most fulfilled. I find joy in giving the knowledge and skills I have been taught to make them stronger and more confident musicians.
I love teaching and seeing development in students. I have been coaching basketball in Delaware county for almost 6 years now. Bringing the best out of students is the job of any coach or instructor. I believe that students that want to be the best at their instrument really do have greatness inside of them. They just need a leader to pull that out. When teaching a student, I always put an emphasis on fundamentals. If teachers skip the fundamentals, there is no foundation. I think the best teachers integrate fun with drills which creates the best results. I am a competitor by nature, so I have a goal to get the best out of my students. I will do what I have to do to make sure these students can play by the time we are done. As long as the student is enjoying themselves and getting better at their instrument, that is all we can ask for as leaders!
I teach all levels from Beginner through Advanced. I often, with beginners, make sure we learn the fundamentals. This gives them a firm foundation, so when we move on, we are not forced to go back to the beginning. I believe the key to being an advanced drummer is the concept of foot-hand independence. That is the idea of getting both of your hands, and both of your feet all doing separate things at the same time. This is the most difficult part of drumming. If I can teach a student this, then I can teach them anything. The advanced that can already hold a steady beat, I like to develop runs and fills on the drums. I can take them into a deeper understanding of how fills can take a song to the next level. Regardless of the skill level, every session will be well worth the time because they will be taking leaps toward becoming an accomplished, advanced drummer.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students grow and develop to being an outstanding musician! I understand that all students do progress at their own pace, but it is my goal to get your student there in the fastest and most efficient way. The most efficient way is not just playing in a session with me, but practicing at home. This will double the speed of development. Inspiring students and setting realistic goals are what lead to quick development. I tailor the way I instruct my students on the wants and needs of the student. If they want to be better at a certain riff or fill, I am not going to force them to learn something else. My goal is to offer the best quality of service by giving the student the most enjoyable and developmental sessions.
