ESP 2010 Musicians Institute Bass Scholarship
I am a professional bassist and guitarist based in Los Angeles. I love to teach and share my knowledge and experience to help others who are eager to learn. I graduated in 2016 from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood with a Bachelors Degree in Bass performance. Since then, I've been playing shows, doing recording sessions, and teaching my own lessons as well as teaching in a few music schools. Most recently, I have toured in many countries playing Bass with Persian singer/artist Dariush Egbali.
I’ve been playing bass and taking lessons since the early 2000s and playing guitar since 2010. I started working as a bassist at MI while I was still in school and I started teaching my own private lessons when I got out of school. Now I teach mostly out of my home studio or at the students home. Most of my musical experience I have learned from playing gigs around town. There are some things that school can’t prepare you for, and I try to help my students who aspire to play their own gigs by giving them tips so they don’t become overwhelmed.
With students that are full beginners, I like to start them out with some reading to show them how time is divided and how to identify notes on the staff. I've found that finding notes on the staff helps them learn the notes on the fretboard faster and easier. I use a book called Guitar Method Book 1 by Hal Leonard. For students who are more advanced, I will focus on their time feel, sound, and music theory. I will teach reading using the real book and material from the Musicians Institute curriculum.
I try to get to know the students as best as I can. I will ask them about their interests in music and outside of music. I also will learn what their weaknesses and strengths are and push them to improve all around. I have a pretty laid back style of teaching. My goal to encourage them, rather than make them feel bad or frustrated. I will simply tell them if they are sounding good, or I will tell them what they can do to sound better. If they can't get it right away, I explain that somethings take a long time to become natural. I like to have fun teaching and I want the same for my students.
