Overview:
Are you interested in learning to play the guitar and want an enjoyable experience that will get you playing songs quickly and with a lot of joy? As a self taught player I have struggled with the how/when/what to practice and finally decided why I was learning to play the guitar. My personal goal is to always improve, but the main reason I play the guitar is for the sheer enjoyment of it as well as producing sounds/songs that I find enjoyable (and if listeners enjoy it that is just a bonus). So what I offer you is a fun learning experience where you will get the most enjoyment out of your guitar and not the painful practice lessons that many feel is a rite of passage in order to play. By taking a song based approach you will not be one of the many that can play just little parts of a lot of things, but will be able to play entire songs which gives you a whole piece to practice and gives any listeners the ability to enjoy your song.
EXPERIENCE
I am a beginning teacher who started playing a guitar as an adult. My love for the instrument is what made me want to spread it with my knowledge I have picked up along the way. My love of the guitar has taken me on a journey so far that has introduced me to wonderful people and I even play my own handmade instrument. The uniqueness that each person can add to the guitar is what I find so fascinating. So I consider myself more of a guide who can understand a lot of the pitfalls a newer player (who I will surely learn from) will run into and show the way around and why. My main goal if for the student to be self directed and for practicing and playing to never feel like work. I also feel the song based approach is the way to go so we can work on whatever song from whatever genre you prefer. We can work on an electric or an acoustic (I am mainly an acoustic player). It is about the journey, not the end goal. Enjoy the ride!
METHODS USED
Open to letting the student direct his own course study. I would suggest trying to learn complete songs so you don't just learn 10 seconds of a million different things. You will be making music, instead of mimicking solos....... I am here to guide and talk guitars, song structure, theory - I will teach you as much as I know and am continuing to learn, just fun music banter, what are you listening to, what are your favorites, what I am listening to..... The main thing I will focus on is keeping it fun and keeping us both learning and getting better all the time.
LESSON STYLE
Very laid back open approach to helping you achieve your own goals. I believe we will accomplish this best by staying with a song based approach as you will learn complete pieces of music and will grow musically and have much more fun and the ability to entertain if you wish. My main goal is for you to love the guitar as much as I do an hopefully the importance and joy it brings in my life will enhance your feeling that you already have or shed new light on a love you didn't know existed. Music makes all people happy and is good for your soul! Let's have some fun.
