Minor in Music, University of Georgia
2003 - 2007 Delaware All State Band 2007 Music Scholarship, Long Island University 2009 Music Scholarship University of Georgia
I am a passionate, motivated teacher that believes no one is too old or too young to learn music. I was blessed to learn from some great instructors in my lifetime and I use those lesson I've learned to teach and motivate my students about music. During my time as a musician, I have been on tour around New York City and had to opportunity to go on tour across many countries in Europe. I have had the privilege of studying in T.K Blue's sudio in Long Island, and the late Dr. Kenneth Fischer's studio at the University of Georgia.
I started teaching Privately in 2007 and have continued off and on since. I have worked with students in Woodwind and Brass either privately or in a school setting. Also, I had the opportunity to work with multiple schools ensembles and marching bands. I encourage all of my students to maintain a constant practice schedule in order to work toward our goals. Music is meant to be enjoyed, so I like to find what it is my student enjoys and improve on those aspects. My students are also encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, and I also encourage creativity in composition. The idea is to keep music fun and progressing consistently. I have taught students of all ages as no one is too young or old to learn.
I have had the privileged of working with many successful musicians. After studying the way they taught me and other students, I feel that the best lesson plans are ones that are catered to the individual student. It is important to know what the student wants to accomplish, then build a lesson plan from there. For a beginning student, we start with essential fundamentals, for a more advanced student, I would guide my instruction based on the student goals. I have taught students with varying goals. It could be to help with one solo, or lessons over multiple years. It solely depends on what we want to accomplish.
I would describe my teaching style as fun and goal oriented. I want my students to love music! It's obviously important that each student progresses in their playing as well as their understanding of music. A method I use is knows as PSP (Praise, Suggest, Praise). I like to acknowledge accomplishments to promote a positive environment. Part of what I like to do is find out what makes a student want to play music. What is fun about music to them? Once I can find the answer, I can tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
