Overview:
I am a actively performing musician who enjoys passing on my knowledge of music to students. I have studied piano privately for 10 years. I have been playing concerts, clubs, and festivals throughout the U.S. I have worked as a church pianist, organist, and choir director for over 20 years. I am still currently working as a church music director, organist and pianist.--As a drummer I have been playing and teaching for over 30 years. Some of the artist I have worked with are Charlie Byrd, Claudio Roditi, Gloria Lynne, and Baba Oluntunji. I have recorded as a leader and appeared on other artist recordings.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience is over 25 years. I have taught private and group lessons in my home, institutions and students homes. i enjoy teaching students who are willing to make the effort to improve and that is achieved by consistent practice. I combine the technical aspects of playing the piano with the joy of making music. For the drums I also emphasize making music. I find that when it is a joyful but challenging experience students tend to progress more rapidly. Each student is unique and all do not progress at the same rate. The important part is that the student progresses at the own particular pace.
METHODS USED
My lesson are geared towards the aspirations of each individual student. I exhibit a great deal of patience in my teaching style. My overall goal in teaching is to provide the student with the tools, information, and direction to achieve there musical goals. I bring a wealth of real world experiences to my teaching. I enjoy teaching students that have the motivation and desire to work at improving their piano/drum abilities while having fun during the process. One of the tools that I use in teaching piano is the John Thompson Piano Method Series. For the drummers i start with the first 13 rudiments and stick grip.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style focuses on learning and playing in a musical fashion. Whether the student is playing and exercise or a composition it always should sound musical. I want my students to internalize what they are playing so that it can become a part of them. They should become one with the music. I set realistic goals which will change along with the progression of the student. I believe in giving them positive feedback along with constructive critiques. I am always searching for thing which will further inspire my students. My teaching style is also geared to the aspiration of each individual students.
