I am a full time musician and music instructor who loves working with students and sharing my passion of music, my experiences and my achievements. I am a professional recording artist who played shows all across the country, opening for national acts and international ones as well. I have been teaching in the Fairfield county (Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Westport, Rye, Portchester) for the past 10 years.
I've had 10 years of teaching experience with developing my own approach to custom lessons for different needs and tastes in music. I began teaching in 2004 and never looked back. I have also coached ROCK BANDS and taught rock-band clinics in the past 6 years. I've acquired so much experience from teaching different styles. I believe everyone is different and it takes a certain approach to learning music. I'm very passionate with teaching music and music theory, and I love explaining what goes behind students' favorite songs such as chord progressions, scales, and technique. "Practice makes perfect"- I can't stress enough how important it is for a student to practice and do their homework and work on their developments.
I start out with fundamental theory, scales, and chords, along with easy songs and riffs. I teach student differently depending on their skill and ability level. I utilize textbooks and DVDs to accompany the lessons. My approach is straight forward, which enables the students to learn quickly.I think the visual aspect of the guitar is very important, so I focus a lot on theory applied directly to the guitar. I like to customize my students' lessons accordingly to their needs and wants. The most important thing about learning is for students to have fun and expand their ideas and imagination. Music is about creation and self-expression.
My specialty is Rock music. It's my passion, my love and my lifestyle. To learn Rock really well, I also cover the basics of some different styles that I believe are important to know such as Blues, Jazz, Classical and Metal. I believe a musician needs to be versatile and open-minded in order to progress and become fluent in the instrument. These are some of the music theory and techniques I teach: Scales - Major and minor modes ( Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian) Pentatonic Scales - Harmonic minor and Melodic Minor among other exotic scales Chord formation and progessions for all styles- Pull-off, Hammer on, legato, tremolo picking, finger-tapping, Arpeggios, string skipping,etc.. Diatonic Harmony and circle of fifths and fourths Speed and accuracy exercises for rhythm and lead guitar, 7 string guitar. Some of the favorite bands I like to teach are Led zepplin, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Beatles and many more.
