I am currently a senior studying Music Education at Brigham Young University and am super excited about students and teaching music! I love volleyball, spikeball, spending time outside, frozen yogurt, paint by numbers, reading, baking, and being with family! One of my favorite feelings is the satisfaction between mentor and mentee, when they’re able to accomplish something they weren’t before.I love to do that through private lessons. I participated in marching and concert band all throughout high school and college, including BYU’s Wind Symphony, a touring group with which I have travelled to Spain and Portugal and will perform with at WASBE in Korea this summer.
I was interested in teaching from a young age; I loved to play “school” with my friends. I started tutoring in high school, as well as teaching private flute lessons. I have taught private lessons since 2017 and have loved every moment of it, both with beginners and with more advanced high school students. I began working as a marching band technician in 2021 and have since worked for numerous schools. Spending time with these students of all ages and interests brings me great joy, and I know that further pursuance of music will bring the same fulfillment to students for years to come.
In lessons, I concentrate on fundamentals (breathing, tone, technique, tonguing, etc), as these are often shorted in the school classroom and will further enable the student long-term. I strive to make abstract concepts concrete by using actions and icons, especially for younger students. It is very important to me that I find out where the student is at so that I can meet them there and we can work together. If the student is in a music class in school or has other extracurricular goals, I love to help them work towards those goals and with any questions they have. I believe a big part of teaching is problem solving!
I highly emphasize the student’s experience in lessons, doing all I can to make sure the student knows they are cared for and appreciated, no matter their skill level or circumstances. We focus on the student’s needs and what they are interested in learning and playing. We strive to fill in any holes, building confidence in music that I believe can spread to other areas of their lives. I have been mentored by many wonderful individuals, and wish to pass on the light and love that they have shared with me.
Hadley is a wonderful teacher for my teenage daughter. She is professional, talented, and competent AND encouraging, approachable, and fun. My daughter is making fast progress and loving her experience with Hadley. And Hadley knew exactly what to do when braces were added to the mix. We are planning to stay with her studio long term. I love her approach.
Hadley is a good teacher for me. She has taught me a lot of stuff about the flute and playing music. She listens to me when I have questions and helps me work through them. She is good at demonstrating so that I know what to do. She is really helpful. I like my lessons with her, because I learn a lot and its fun.
Hadley has been my daughters flute teacher coming up on three years now! My daughter is a sophomore now and she has made so much progress with Hadley over the last three years. She has helped her fine tune her skills and has given her the confidence to step outside her comfort zone and challenge herself with more difficult pieces. Hadley is always very encouraging and always positive and upbeat. Hadley is very easy to work with and if there is a conflict in our schedule, she will work around it. We live out of state so we do zoom lessons with her. When we first started "zoom flute lessons" I wasn't totally sure how it would go, but it has been going very well and has not been a problem at all! I would recommend Hadley to anyone!
Hadley is an amazing flute teacher! I've been taking lessons with her for a while, and I can feel myself improve each time I'm with her. Hadley is very understanding, helpful, and patient with me when she is teaching me my flute music! I always feel good after our lessons; I know my skill has gone up! She's helped me be a more efficient sight reader, I have better tone, I can play a wider range of notes, and much more!
Hadley is the best flute teacher I have ever had! I had her in middle school. She is so kind and helped me improve my skills so much that I became first chair in my band. Each lesson we would work on the music I was learning if I had any or if not we did technical work. This was my favorite part because she taught me expert tips that apply to everything I have played since. She is so nice and relatable and I loved working with her. Highly recommend!!
