Her Yale piano trio has been selected to perform at the prestigious Vista Chamber Concert, after having been selected from several nominated groups throughout Yale. Recently they have also won the Chamber Music Competition held across all intrumentations and performed the Piano Trio in C Major by Johannes Brahms at the Winners Concert in May 2012. Haeyoon is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music where she received Masters degree with a full scholarship under the Performance 20/20 program, a prestigious chamber-intensive program. She began her chamber studies soon after starting cello with her siblings and have performed in community events and ceremonies since. She is a winner of many competitions, including: the Regional Solo & Ensemble Competition at the high school level, a series of first prizes at the Renton Young Artists Competition, the Marjorie Easley National Strings Competition, and the Individualis International Competition. She earned her Performers Diploma at Indiana University, Bloomington receiving the Eva Heinitz Scholarship under the tutelage of Janos Starker, and attained her Bachelors Degree from the University of Washington.
Haeyoon has taught for over 10 years, both cello and piano, to students of all ages from 3-50 years old. She welcomes students of all ages and all stages of life.
Haeyoon teaches using pedagogical techniques taught by her teachers, Janos Starker, Helga Winold, Toby Saks, Mihai Tetel, Aldo Parisot, and Kyung Shin.
Haeyoon's lesson style is adhered to each students' needs, not following just one single formula for all. She recognizes the needs that each individual may have and works with each student and, if needed, their parents, to provide the best experience and enhancement in learning as possible. She incorporates all aspects of music (performance, melodic and harmonic importance, rhythm, etc.) to provide a complete musical education while making the lessons enjoyable and understandable.
