I am a devoted musician and private lesson instructor in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sharing my love for music with my students is a passion of mine, and I strive to help my students achieve success every day. I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in May 2020. Through music, I have participated in multiple community service opportunities, I was able to perform in a music video, I traveled to Ireland on a concert tour, and I performed for a crowd of 2,000 people at one of the nation's largest Irish Festivals in Dublin, Ohio.
My teaching experience began in high school, where I mentored the younger musicians and acted as a role model to them. In college, I began teaching private lessons to students of varying ages and abilities, as well as leading advanced ensembles made up of college-level musicians. Working with students of all ages inspired me to have high expectations of them, and to motivate each one of them to be the best musician and student they can be. I value my students' enjoyment of our lessons, and I try to incorporate concepts that they will look forward to learning. I am passionate about all aspects of music, including music composition, theory, and history, and I include these important subjects in my instruction. I believe that anyone has the potential to be a talented musician, regardless of age, abilities, or former experience. I have helped 5 year old students with ADHD learn to focus during instruction, and I have helped students in their 40s learn a skill they never had a chance to learn as children.
For my string students, I typically use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at first, and then I introduce the Suzuki Method for solo repertoire once they have progressed on their instruments. For my vocal students, I find what type of music my student is interested in, and I then recommend a voice book that we will pick repertoire from. For my piano students, I use the Piano Adventures series, which includes the fundamentals as well as solo repertoire. In each lesson, regardless of the instrument I am teaching, I begin with a strict warm-up routine before checking on the student's progress from the former week. I clarify any confusion the student may have, I give feedback on the student's progress, and then we move on.
I find a great sense of joy in my students developing a passion for music much like my own. It is important to me to include composition, theory, and history in my lessons so that my students can understand music as a whole, rather than just being a talented performer. My favorite part of each lesson is when students make discoveries on their own, and when they realize they are able to answer their own questions. I guide my students towards finding confidence in their playing, as well as finding joy in practicing their instruments at home.
Hannah is the best! My 11yo daughter has been taking piano and cello lessons with Hannah for a few months now. Hannah is an amazing musician and teacher. She not only teaches how to play, she also offers the history behind the music she teaches. She puts 100% into every lesson and you can feel her passion for music. My daughter looks forward to her lesson every week and has grown so much in her music in just a short time.
Both my children began working with Hannah during quarantine. One takes voice lessons and the other piano. Hannah was able to identify the skill levels and needs of each child and keep them engaged and interested even VIRTUALLY! Way to go Hannah! My kids are ages 11 and 13 and both struggle with keeping interest in activities during this crazy time in life. Hannah not only has kept them interested, but they also look forward to their lessons each week. I highly recommend Hannah for any age and have referred her to many of my friends with children looking to improve their music skills
My son started to take piano lessons from Hannah at the start of the pandemic. I thought it would be something to help him occupy his time. He has learned so much from her in a short period of time! He plays several instruments and Hannah has taught him not only piano but a lot about music theory. His understanding of music has grown during the few months they have been together. It has been a great experience.
My daughter had just started vocal lessons about a year before the pandemic and really wanted to start piano lessons to help her practice singing. I loved how Hannah wanted to give back to child wanting to explore music while at home. My daughter who is 10 loves working with Hannah on piano and vocals. She is excited to learn new current music and play some of it on the piano to help her practice. She has helped encourage the love of music for my daughter during a time that it is greatly needed! I would highly recommend Hannah to help your child love music even more!
