I am a passionate and engaged teacher who loves to see my students succeed and grow in confidence and courage! I graduated with my Bachelors in Voice from DePauw University in 2017 where I studied with Caroline Smith. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Vocal Performance at the University of North Florida with James C. Hall. I’ve had the opportunity to sing everywhere from Cape Cod with the College Light Opera Company, Wooster, Ohio with the Ohio Light Opera, and even several choir competitions in Europe! My repertoire covers everything from opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop; all the things I love to teach!
I began teaching five years ago with a diverse studio that covered everything from musical theatre to hip hop. I currently teach at a music studio here in Jacksonville, where I have a large studio of private students as well as group music classes for elementary and preschool aged children. I emphasize exploration and curiosity and encourage my students to explore multiple genres of music. Classical voice is my favorite thing to teach but I love when my students bring me new and exciting pieces of all kinds to work on. All ages are welcome in my studio!
I like to start by exploring where the student is at in their musical education and what they are looking to study in private lessons. From there, we build the lesson around them! Once we’ve established where to begin, I’ll ask the student to choose a piece they’d like to perform and I’ll assign them a piece of my own choice as well. For my classical students I'll typically start with art song repertoire and for musical theatre I'll choose a classic piece. We will create a list of goals and keep lessons engaging and fun! Because why do we do music? Because we love it!
No two students learn alike and that sentiment is at the core of my teaching philosophy. I want each student to learn at a pace they find comfortable and give themselves attainable, realistic goals. Each student will receive lesson plans tailored to their needs and their goals. I am always encouraging students to explore and try new things fosters confidence and creativity. I want to work on whatever my students are interested in! If you’re excited about the music then you’ll be excited to learn!
