Course Work: Anderson University, Course Work: Youngstown State University
I am a singer-songwriter, engineer, and producer from Youngstown, OH who has been playing music for over 15 years. I attended Youngstown State University and Anderson University studying music education and business. I´ve been performing throughout the Midwest for the last 10 years and have been teaching for the last 5 and continue to study and further my education every day. I´ve performed with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, the Anderson Symphony Orchestra and nationally touring acts such as Joshua Powell and the Great Train Robbery and The Hawkeyes.
My music experience began in 5th grade when I started playing the Bassoon for the school orchestra. I then picked up Bass guitar and performed alongside the Pep band and the Jazz band and continued my practice with both all the way through college. After college I began making my own music and currently have 5 albums out between the numerous projects I´ve involved myself with. I began teaching during college and continue to do so almost everyday, always finding ways to further my education and career. Last year I started apprenticing at a local studio, learning the ins and outs of recording and producing.
My methods vary depending on skill level, but with every student I begin by examining their understanding of theory as I believe theory is the basis of all music. I then like to get an understanding of what their main goals are, whether that be learning to play music for friends and family all the way up to making a career out of it. My experience in audio engineering, management, and producing also allows me to help students plan for a solid future career in whatever field suits them. Ultimately my goal is to show people how rewarding and entertaining being a part of the music industry can be.
My teaching style varies depending on the level of the student. For beginners, I often keep my approach lax and hope to not overwhelm them, as I´ve seen many a beginner quit due to lack of confidence and understanding. Every student requires a different approach not just due to their skill level but also their personality. Certain students don´t take criticism well, while others may only improve through it. I always try to be kind and understanding no matter where my student´s skill level or passion is at.
