Hello My name is Heather Wells. Students Can call me Heather or Ms. Wells. I am a music education major with an emphasis on Flute at sac state. My main instrument is flute. I also play alto, tenor sax, piccolo, and piano. I am starting to learn guitar a little bit. I am a little shy but I am really good at working with kids. I have taught a little bit of preschool but I have not yet have had the opportunity teach instruments to students yet and want to get experience in it because I want to be able to teach students music.
I don't have any experience at this time but I think that it is very important to get a regular constant practice schedule so that they can understand and practice the key points that were taught to them. I will give the students some classical music and modern music because I know that it will help the students learn if they play something they would like to play. I want the students to have fun with their playing as well. I will encourage students to do there best and to enter and compete in competitions and recitals. I will also encourage them to try and come up with their own material to have some fun.
Teaching is very new to me. For beginning students I would start with a Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book. Then when the student progresses the fundamentals I will start to introduce solo pieces for recital performance. For adults I will ask them what would be fun for them to play and make my lesson plans off of that to keep them engaged and having fun no matter what level they are. I would encourage the students to listen to the piece that they are going to play before playing they attempt to practice the piece.
Music has helped me a lot through out my life and I want to be able to watch students develop a passion and fall in love with music. I want to make sure that students progress at his or her own speed. I will help sett goals for my students at each lesson to help them progress in their music. I will acknowledge the students accomplishments to help my students progress and keep my students eager to learn more about music and their instrument. I want find out what inspires the students so that I can find the correct material to teach the students.
