I am an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor who is excited to share my passion of singing with my students. I graduated from the Royal College of Music with a Master of Performance in Voice and I also hold a Bachelor Degree in Music from Northwestern University where I studied voice, musicology, and lyric languages. I have an extensive performance experience and have performed in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. I am now based out of New York City and perform mostly around the area. I have been exposed to teaching since high school. However, I did not get serious about teaching until my college days. I took two vocal pedagogy classes. Through these classes I learned both about the pedagogy of healthy singing and of productive teaching. I truly believe that having a good classical foundation will take a student far. I like to work on classical music, but I also have a passion for other genres. My students in the past have started with classical music and then later we apply what we have learned to other genres. I am comfortable teaching people of all ages. The main goal is to have fun and sing the music that inspires you!
For beginners, I typically start with the 24 Italian Aria book. We pick a song that the student likes best and work on that. At the same time, we also work on a song that interests the student within reason. There must be a basic grasp of the fundamentals of technique. First and foremost, I believe in healthy and safe singing. I believe that there is healthy and safe singing in every genre, but one must have an understanding of bel canto singing first to be able to sing properly in every genre.
I love teaching and sharing my passion of singing with my students. I, however, never want to pressure a student to go in one director or push them too far too fast. The best way to learn is at your own pace. I make vocal warm ups tailored to each students needs and I do encourage them to try these out at home. I also try to be there to the best of my ability for my students and encourage them to perform and progress. I tune into what my student wants to get out of lessons and I make sure that they are getting what they need.
