Overview:
I'm a dedicated and passionate student and teacher of music and enjoy teaching just as much as playing. I'm a graduate of Muhlenberg College with a BA in music performance. As much as I love performing in front of an audience, I get the same warm satisfaction out of constant practice and sharpening of my skills on my own. As someone who regularly plays with working, Grammy-nominated musicians in the tri-state area I've found that the musical values I hold dear translate all across the board to all players and styles. Every performance opportunity itself is a chance to improve and learn!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching when I was a junior in highchool 5 years ago. As I progressed and study music at college I've kept on teaching as I've kept on learning, both at school and at home. Consistency is key and I always ingrain this into my students, no matter the level. The more you play the more you'll foster a love for your instruments! Being classically trained has given me a phenomenal base for my playing and I always try and incorporate the excellent form and technique it produces when teaching, especially with students of different genres! Most importantly, I do my best to ensure a student enjoys the work. Being creative and exploring are just as important as learning the classics!
METHODS USED
For beginners to the guitar, bass or banjo I usually start with the basic notes and chord shapes. When they progress and for more advanced students, I introduce reading tab, music, scales and basic chord progressions. For advanced students I generally work with modes, finer technique and advanced sightreading, chordal and modal melodies. To work in practice exercises I typically bury them in pieces the student enjoys to better get the hang of them. Most importantly, if a student has a different or strange way of learning or understanding a concept that works for them, that's the way I teach! Basic technique aside, there is no right way to learn, only the way that works best for the individual.
LESSON STYLE
The first thing I ask a student is what kind of music they enjoy. What we love to hear is almost always what we want to play. As someone with ADHD I completely understand and empathize with students who have a difficult time focusing and a different way of understanding a concept. Taking a breath and a stretch can sometimes be the best cure for learner's block. Pointing out real progress is one of the best way to fuel the desire to learn more and is itself a reward! When I find a student loves a certain kind of music I put my effort into ensuring they get as proficient in it as possible.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
