Overview:

I have been playing the piano almost all my life. The passion I have for music of all kinds is contagious. My parents were opera singers, I grew up in a Latin American setting, and I performed with a symphony orchestra at the age of 13. I have taught piano to students of all levels and ages. I love to share with my students the marvels that are found in music, from the composers to their individual styles, to enjoying improvisation and multi-piano/hands arrangements. I am Spanish bi-lingual, but if you count music, you could say that I speak three languages.

EXPERIENCE

I started teaching private piano lessons while getting my masters in piano. I have over 25 years of experience and can adapt my teaching style according to the needs of the students. I have worked with students with IEPs in school, retired individuals who just want to enjoy making music, and very young beginners. Sme of my students have continued their musical studies and have been accepted in music colleges. Even if they eventually switch to a different musical instrument, the knowledge and experience gained in piano lessons cannot be measured because all aspects eventually make further learning much easier.

METHODS USED

The methods that I normally use are the Alfred Basic Piano Library, and the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures. I also use technique books such as Fingerpower, Hanon, and Czerny. I always incorporate Music Theory in my lessons as well as improvisation. i am familiar with the Royal Conservatory of Music technical requirements and find them necessary to any student wanting to become proficient at piano/keyboard playing. I use may online worksheets for theory, improvisation and fun repertoire as well. i am open to the needs of the student but also have a structured method of teaching so that all aspects of the music learning process is followed.

LESSON STYLE

As a teacher I am not afraid to challenge students. They need to be challenged. They welcome challenges. The bigger the challenge, the greater the rewards in self-esteem and confidence are when they perform a difficult piece of music they thought they would never be able to play. Years of experience have exposed me to countless approaches when it comes to technical exercises. I believe in scales and arpeggios. All piano students need to be proficient in them, but that is only the starting point. If a student is not encouraged to try other things, most of the time they will not. Music is a way of life; it can form us into who we are, if studied regularly from an early age. If a teacher is able to develop a student's interest in music from an early stage, the student will find that the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional rewards of such passion for music are endless. I find I have a drive to share my musical passions with students so that they may continue, in their own paths, to cultivate this truly unique art form
