I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students with a desire to grow in there craft. I've currently been playing saxophone for 17 years and piano for 5 years. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician. I've performed in numerous venues and festivals such as SXSW and The World Famous Apollo Theater.
I have ten years of experience teaching and seventeen years of experience playing saxophone. I began teaching private lessons in high school part time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio or at students homes. I've also taught music at many residential treatment facilities and programs with kids with special needs or severe psychiatric conditions. My goal as an educator is to help instill and grow the desire to be the best you can be at your instrument.
For all beginning students I start by having the student set a goal. Some goals past students have set are learning to improvise, learn a specific piece, prepare for a musical competition/performance, prepare for a college audition or be able to express themselves through there instrument. As long as you have a goal with your instrument I can help you achieve it. I create lesson plans based on the students level to help grasp and improve fundamentals, technique and sound. I like to find out students goals and interests to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
