I started learning piano when I was 6 years old in Japan. Then, I started to take singing lesson when I was 15 years old since my teacher taught both voice and piano.
For University studies, I moved to California. I have received Music scholarships and have won singing competitions. I received my Master of Music from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Last 24 years, I have been living in San Diego. I have been teaching about 20 years. I also perform as an opera singer. I am a mother of 10 years old girl.
I started teaching Math professionally when I was 18 years old. After 21 years old, I started to teach at local music school as well as teaching privately at students houses. Some students asked me to teach Japanese, and I have taught Japanese as well.
Teaching is my calling and I am good at it. I am just helping people to understand things they do not know or understand. I grew up with a private tutor and my academic was excellent. I finished high school and Universities. But I enjoyed and learned the most from my private tutor.
I teach private lesson, which means I plan and teach according to the individual's goal and level. When a student has one song that he or she just want to improve, I will help and focus on that song. When a student want to learn general piano, I use "My First Piano Adventure" piano book series.
For piano technique, I use study materials from Certificate of Merit (Piano tests in California).
For singing, I use my own method of technique (healthy, not pushing way of singing) and a student pick his or her favorite song.
When I teach, I try to make students learning simple and easy as possible. I will not make it more complicated. I am here to help/make it easier after all. I will also inspire and encourage student to learn and get better by demonstrating. I am the cheer leader for my students and we learn together. I am patient and supportive. Sometimes, I get very surprised how my students improved so fast. One student sang totally different after I taught him 45 minutes lesson! I make a set schedule so that it becomes a habit of learning.
