I am a dedicated and loyal educator who loves to teach and motive his students. Music is my love, teaching and educating is my passion. I graduate from Morgan State University with a Bachelors in Music (Trumpet & Voice) and Education. I've had the opportunity to study with Wynton Marsalis and Langston Fitzgerald of the Baltimore Symphony. I enjoyed my time as a performer traveling, but, now dedicated and devote my time to education the youth though and about music.
I have over 17 years of experience teaching Band & Choir on every level from Elementary to College . Prior to my appointment at Coppin State University, I taught High school for 14 years, Elementary and Middles school for 4 through out the state of Maryland. Among a host of my awards and accolades, I will always consider my students accomplishments as my greatest reward as an educator. Under my mentorship, my students have gone on to successful careers as musicians, directors, teachers, performers, educators, recording artists, secret service and managers. There is no greater gift then to see the fruits of your labor blossom and grow into something great and beautiful.
I've learn that the most important part of educating my students is to teach to their learning style and ability while giving them some strong encouragement and guidance. I first start with an assements of where the students skills are and their mindset. I try to findout what they want to due and what they like to due. Sometimes students dont truly know. This is important for me because it sets the foundation for how the lessons will be planned out week to week. My style of teaching has improved my students grades in other academic class while improving there musical skills. They learn good study skills and habits under me that are used in other classes.
I am a nurturer. I teach with caring, passion and support of all my students. It's not just enough show students how to play a note or read a rhythm, but how to use that knowledge in everyday life. I like to build a positive working relationship with my students. This way they look forward to their lesson, not only because they are comfortable around me, but because they are growing and learning about music and it's relationship to life.
