I want to teach you how to play drums, guitar, or piano! I love music and guiding students to discovering their unique voice as a musician and creative. While I have been classically-trained on the drum set, I am completely self-taught when it comes to music theory. Whatever the style you're looking to learn, I am open and enthusiastic to teach it. The weirder, the better! I am versed in all genres, even niche sub-genres. Whether you're looking to start a new hobby or improve your part-writing with your band, I would love to help.
Message me if interested or have any specific questions! I am more than willing to teach beginners, intermediate players, and advanced drummers.
I have been playing and practicing the drum set consistently since I began in my early adolescence. Over the past decade, I have performed with dozens of ensembles of varying styles from jazz orchestras to rock outfits to more off-kilter projects. I have also joined many profession groups on regional tours, as well asdtracked in studios as a session musician. In 2019, I graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor degree in Audio Engineering and Music, studying the other half of music that people often find confusing.
For beginner students, I often begin with the foundations of the instrument. For drums, we would be practice the rhythmic subdivisions (quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes) and slowly work them into grooves that they can easily start to pick out of their favorite songs. When the fundamentals have been established, we can learn more advanced grooves, dissect songs together, and learn how to improvise and write our own drum parts. My biggest focus as a teacher is to help the student discover the music that they want to learn and make so that they can develop their own unique voice.
As I said above, my biggest priority is to guide the student on their journey to discovering the music that they would like to play and create. When I was first learning, it was a struggle to unlock my own creativity and become daring enough to play my own music in front of others. Luckily, I had amazing instructors who helped me break out of my shell and find my confidence. Through our lessons, I will recognize the students progress and affirm their hard work because music is not easy and it is easy to become discouraged. It's important to never give up and I will be there to encourage them along the way.
