BM, UNC School of the Arts, Violin Performance
Its my greatest pleasure to help children and adults alike succeed and improve! In 1990 I first began learning violin and i never stopped since. I graduated from UNC-SA through both their highschool and collegiate programs. After earning my violin performance degree I continued to travel around the United States and Japan, teaching violin everywhere i went. When i returned in 2015, I joined the Durham Symphony and started performing with various symphonies throughout North Carolina. I also began my own violin studio again, and presently have 15 or so openings. I look forward to meeting you all and teaching your children!
Ive been performing violin for almost 20 years, teaching for 15 years, and running my violin studio here in NC for the last 6 months. I currently teach for Kidsnotes in Durham, as well as running my own music studio, and I am able to teach children of any age. My specialty lies in identifying the needs of every student, and providing them with the tools, performances, and motivation they need to achieve greater heights!
For students who are children, I have a vareity of teaching style opportunities including the Suzuki Method, Essential Elements, Janice Rhoda's Complete Techniques, and other teaching methods. All of my students recieve education in music theory, rhythm, aural skills (voice/ear lessons), performance techniques, sight reading, and of course intrument technique. Children are very different from each other, and all of them learn in very different ways. My personal teaching style is whatever helps the student learn best. Adults are easier because they have a greater understanding of responsibilty and self control, however children learn these skills over time with propper guidance, and learning how to learn is a big part of my students' training. For all levels and ages, fun is essential. Students are encouraged to explore their preferences in music, and are given choices as they learn music in order to keep them interested and motivated.
As a teacher i encourage my students to keep improving and progressing to the best of their ability. While I can be strict, I always try to make lessons fun, especially for young children because it is essential to their learning capability that they enjoy learning their instrument. Students are given opportunities, words, and support to increase their self confidence while constantly challenging them so that they can make the greatest strides possible to their own personal level and learning speed. Each child and their family have different musical goals and purposes, and my teaching reflects whatever the goals are.
