I am a drummer and I like playing music with people and through the beauty of music learn and make available people around me to learn as well. I received a Master Degree at Northern Illinois University, as a Jazz Major, Drumset studies.
In these two years of graduate studies I have gained professional skills in Jazz Area in terms of performing, leading and coaching ensembles, I learned about other areas in Jazz besides Drums and Percussion. Opportunity of being a part of a NIU Jazz Orchestra thought me about Big Band concept in music, where also I performed on some outstanding Jazz Festivals like Chicago Jazz Festival and Peoria Jazz Festival. I gave a few masterclasses in Illinois area, in high schools.
My metropolitan way of studying starting in Europe, performing abroad, and coming to U.S. made my music views wider open for other styles of music. Starting from Folk music, Gypsy, Classic, Jazz, Latin; all these styles helped me to perceive new horizons in music.
However, the main goal for an educator, in my opinion, is to help student to find his own way of expressing the music. To explain to students the main rules so later he/her can break them by reaching a higher level in music sense. Every student, as an individual has its own way of finding and comprehending the music paths.
I and other educators are there to make students available so they can find their own choices. So, from this standpoint there cannot be any “certain theory” or tutorial of guiding students through this learning process because every single student needs different and unique approach by us, (professors), to enable him/her to find his own way through music research, we, as educators are there to help and show them certain shortcuts to reach to the professional level that they want to gain. One of the greatest signs that shows that we did a good work with student, as educators, is when student reach on that level that he/her start finding new things in music that are also new for us educators as well. At this moment in music creativity, both, students and educators, start teaching one each other while they are enjoying the beauty of music. The uncertainty becomes the main focus in music sense, since neither professor nor student know what new element will show up during next class of performing some tune.
Nowadays, being all around percussionist and drummer requires presence of ability to adjust to every style of music. My idol, Steve Gadd, said,, Adjustments never stop!”Opportunity of being a part of a NIU Jazz Orchestra thought me about Big Band concept in music, where also I performed on some outstanding Jazz Festivals like Chicago Jazz Festival and Peoria Jazz Festival. I gave a few masterclasses in Illinois area, in high schools. I gained experience marching snare approach, concert approach and also Jazz Vibraphone.
