I am a native Greek professional musician, performer, composer, and arranger. I have received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Composition at Georgia State University with Dr. N. J. Demos and I also hold a Diploma in Composition and a Diploma in Byzantine Music (Eastern Orthodox Chant). Through the last 35 years, I have created a considerable portfolio of compositions which are mainly influenced by Greek popular, folk and Byzantine Music, performed a variety of musical styles in Greece and U.S.A and I have taught hundreds of students from six years old to adults. I enjoy seeing my students progress in music and I exploit my musical experience to help them exploit their potential as well.
I taught my first students around 1993 back in my homeland, Greece. Since then, I taught several instruments such as piano, guitar, mandolin, ukelele, Greek bouzouki, ud and Greek Lute. In my teaching, I always combine elements, from any musical style I have taught to strengthen my teaching skills and help students achieve their best. I believe in a good balance between studying theory and practicing technique and music. Theory reveals the secrets of music. Technique, facilitates the students to improve the quality of the music they practice and perform in order to accomplish the best quality they can achieve. Finally, musical material itself is the ultimate goal for them to enjoy at home or, why not, on stage.
Essentially, I believe in methods for instrumental instruction. I have my favorites for each instrument I teach. A method is like a staircase with which the students are able to methodically progress in music and it is the fundamental for any particular style of music they would like to enjoy practicing and performing. Of course, additional material can also be added during the lessons according to the current level of the students and specific styles they would like to get acquainted with through their practice
There are moments that I look back and think how amazing is that students start from scratch and now they are able to create music on their favorite musical instrument. Technical development is always an essential element in my teaching but the ultimate goal is to help the students to feel and express music to the very extent their abilities. Often, I focus on the particular struggles a student may go through and I am trying to help them overcome the obstacle that may prevent them to enjoy the music they play.
