In 2005 I entered into the Technical High School of Music with a specialty in Viola at the University Institute of Fine Arts (Instituto Universitario de Bellas Artes – IUBA) of the University of Colima, with Professor Oleksander Yanyev (Russia). I studied my Bachelors in Music as “Performer Soloist in Orchestral Instrument Specialty in Viola” at the previously mentioned institution, from the year 2008-2012 with Professor Oleksander (Russia) being awarded all four years with a full scholarship for excellent GPA and Graduating with Honors for being an outstanding student of the generation in the Degree of “Performer Soloist in Orchestral Instrument”. I participated in several occasions at the year-end Concerts of the IUBA of the University of Colima, in which only the best students are invited each semester to participate, thus acting in all semesters of 2005-2008, 2010 and 2012. I have participated in Master Classes of the various Academies of the IUBA of the University of Colima; With the Professors: Boris Vayner (Russia) in 2009, winter 2011, Michael Klotz (USA) in 2010 and summer 2011, 2014 Sergei Kravchenko (Russia) and 2014 Yunil Jin (Korea). Besides participating Abroad: in the 2012 ELAN International Music Festival Texas, USA, with Professors Joseph Gold (USA), Richard Young (USA), Alexander Treger (Russia); in 2014 in the St. Petersburg String Academy Wichita, KS., with Professor Boris Vayner (Russia), in 2015. I participated in two concerts with the String Chamber Orchestra of the IUBA, of the University of Colima, at the Palace of Fine Arts in the hall Manuel Maria Ponce in Mexico City, Mexico, 2007 and 2009 respectively. As in the above-mentioned orchestra I also partook in different presentations in the cities of Manzanillo, Colima, Zamora and Guadalajara. In 2013 I was honored to participate as a guest to the orchestra for a festival in which the Mexican composer Arturo Márquez was the organizer and director. I have taken classes with various Chamber Music ensembles like the St. Petersburg String Quartet (Russia), Amernet String Quartet (USA), Trio Broz (Italy), Quarteto Latinoamericano and the student cellist of M. Rostropovich, V. Saradjan. I also worked in various orchestras for special presentations in the state of Colima, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Morelos, Mexico and California, Kansas and Texas, US. As an educator, I have had the opportunity to work with kids from 4 years old and up to adults at any age. Teaching in music Theory and specialty instruments like the violin, viola and piano. I have experience in both public and private schools and after school programs from Kinder levels to College and Masters Programs. I have contributed to the editing and creation of music for short films in the City of Colima, Col. Mexico, using improvised and contemporary styles. In the United States, I have performed as a member of the Camellia Symphony Orchestra in Sacramento, CA for two seasons and the Merced Symphony. I have served as a music instructor of violin, viola and piano lessons in the area of Sacramento, CA. In April 2018 I was selected to perform with Bay area based Delphi trio. I graduated with honors from the Masters degree in Music Performance at San Francisco State University under the instruction of Paul Yarborough and the Alexander String Quartet. On my graduation, I was selected to receive the Distinguished Achievement Award for Academic Excellence at the Graduate Recognition Ceremony on May 22nd, 2018. I am currently working with Maestro Urs Steiner and Golden Gate Symphony as Principal Violist and musicians recruiter, substitute for Academy Orchestra, Santa Cruz Symphony, Merced Symphony, and Solano Symphony. Among other side jobs such as Assistant Professor for Viola Faculty in both Undergrad and Graduate levels at San Francisco State University, Music editor and Event planner.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching in both private studio and public schools since 2012 from K-12, high schools and college levels. I like sharing my passion for music to students that are willing to learn and enjoy the same love for music. I am currently teaching at San Francisco State University as a Assistant Professor in the Music department for both Undergrad and Graduate levels in Viola (soloists) and Chamber Music as well as private students at my own studio. I have been working with students from ages 3 and up to 65.
METHODS USED
I used to use the Suzuki method but mostly I used formal classical method. Although, I always fit my lessons depending of each student's needs and/or requests. Personally I like the classical method because I also teach my students music theory if needed as well as historical facts to understand the music better. I have also thaught the El Sistema method from Venezuela which basically teaches students the feeling of playing music phisically. Most of the time I am combining all I know depending on what the student need.
LESSON STYLE
I believe that keeping my students motivated is a strong factor to achieve things faster. Usually students come to me because they have a true love to music and an especific instrument. I enjoy doing group lessons but I do preffer one by one lessons. There is a better chance to motice each studen's needs and lacks so that I know what kind of information they need to improve it. I like playing with my studens, they always seemed somewhat more motivaded to practice and improve faster so they are able to play music at a level thay they can enjoy it.
