Overview:
In 2006, my love for music began at Temecula Middle School, which is where I played clarinet for three years and performed in Disneyland and Las Vegas. In 2013, I graduated from Temecula Valley High School and I completed four years of marching band there. I was clarinet section leader for one year and also played with the Bravura Youth Symphony Orchestra outside of school for three years. I became clarinet section leader and board member for that group as well. When I joined Riverside City College Marching Tigers in 2013, I decided to become a music major. After three years, I managed to become assistant clarinet section leader there and I traveled to Paris, France with the marching band. Along the way, I also learned how to play guitar, piano and trumpet and I learned that teaching other students is something that I love to do.
EXPERIENCE
Aside from attending to the normal duties of a section leader, there were several times when I would privately teach students or host sectionals at my home. I have done this for three years and it has been a major success. I love helping students develop their skills and seeing them grow. I would encourage practice at least a little bit each day and I always helped them prepare for a concert or a recital. If there was something the student didn't understand with music, I would help them understand it confidentally, no matter the age. I firmly believe that music is there for anyone at anytime and it has the potential to change many lives on a positive note.
METHODS USED
When teaching students who are young, I would first start off with the fundamentals. For example, I would explain music terms to them and develop the new language from there. Once the student has a basic understanding of music, I would then talk about the Circle of Fifths and encourage them to participate in events like concerts or festivals in school. When becoming a young adult, I would then discuss competitions and help them prepare for college auditions. As for adults, I would teach the student something new or challenge them, depending on their experience.
LESSON STYLE
I have the goal of helping students look at music the way I do: with passion and inspiration. I encourage students to open their minds and set goals for themselves. For example, I would ask them the question, "By playing music, what do you want to accomplish?" I have asked this question to myself many times throughout my life thus far, and it has worked because I have accomplished so much. Ultimately, music has made me happy and much more of a hardworker. I can guarantee that music is a positive element in life and I enjoy teaching that to students.
