BM, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Flute Performance
2016- 3rd Prize Central Ohio Flute Association Collegiate Division Competition
I am a passionate teacher of the flute and piccolo. I am currently available to teach lessons at my home studio or online. I have helped students prepare for performances in Cincinnati and Japan, scholarship auditions, and begin the flute from scratch. I understand the needs of young students and works to instill confidence in every musician I teach.
I began flute later than many (age 14 to be exact). I remember how daunting learning a new instrument can be, and I aim to instill confidence and joy in all of my students.
I am pursuing my Bachelor of Music in Flute at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as a student of Randy Bowman, Principal Flute of the Cincinnati Symphony. My personal musical highlights include performances with the CCM Philharmonia, Wind Orchestra, and Chamber Players. You can also find me in the pit orchestras for many theaters in Cincinnati. In high school, I was Principal Flute of the OMEA All-State Orchestra and a member of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra. I have performed under the batons of Louis Langrée, Earl Rivers, Gene Chang, and Sandra Dackow. I have performed in masterclasses for Bonita Boyd, Mindy Kaufman, Aaron Goldman, and Terri Sundberg.
I assign method books, etudes (studies), and repertoire appropriate for the playing level of the student. My teaching emphasizes fundamentals first for students of every level. This fundamental study supports students in their pursuit of their musical and artistic goals. The method books I recommend students begin with are in the Rubank series, either Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Etudes to supplement will be the Cavally Melodious and Progressive studies. When students reach an appropriate level, we will select repertoire for their first recital performance!
My teaching style is dynamic, grounded in known pedagogical methods, and tailored to every student's individual goals. My students have achieved many honors, including 'Superior' ratings at solo and ensemble festivals. I also believe while hard work and discipline are imperative to success, a young musician must also learn the skills of patience and self-compassion. Music is a wonderful way to learn self-discipline and self-motivation, and students can practice extending kindness to themselves and others as they go on this journey.
