2002 - Magna Cum Laude Berklee College Of Music
Welcome New Students! My name is Ivan and I love music. I believe I was meant to serve others through music. I was fortunate to graduate with honors from Berklee College of Music. I've performed in multiple stages in North America with both established and indie artists. My all time instrument has been the drumset but in the last 5 or so years have worked on learning and mastering guitar. I've recorded both at commercial recording studios as well as at my own home recording studio. I always look forward to helping my students improve and reach their musical goals.
I started teaching since coming to miami in the year 2002. This is where I discovered that teaching can be a powerful way to help others improve and cause a positive impact. Little ones develop brain interconnectivity like no other discipline does (not even math!). Teens use it as a way to express themselves in a very healthy and powerful way. Adults have a very good hobby for the rest of their life, or a side business. Teaching students has also been an opportunity to keep learning myself, as each student has different challenges and goals. This pushes me to research and learn the best path towards music freedom!
I do like cover a lot of ground in my teaching. This is why we learn everything from to read, write music, harmony, rudiments or scales, warmup exercises, music theory, playing songs, improvising, and more!!! I use multiple books, techniques and resources acquired both through Berklee College of Music as well as others I've studied along the way. I always try to customize classes to the student's primary needs (learn songs, play in a band, learn music, etc). I look forward to incorporating my methods into your learning experience so we can make the absolute best of it!
I'm mostly focused on keeping my students engaged with music. Some decide it can be a lifetime career, while others simply want to enjoy all the benefits that come from learning an instrument. Our lessons are meant to challenge you enough so you feel motivated but not so much that the challenge appears as impossible and students feel like quitting. This to me is the basic principle of how to achieve a balanced and successful life. Because lessons are tailored to your needs, the learning is very dynamic. Some students love reading music so they learn to read early on, while others struggle somewhat with it so it takes them a while longer. The important thing is that we enjoy the process and feel we're making progress together!
