Bachelor Degree: University of North Texas, Master Degree: Indiana University
I am a clarinetist, educator, and performer that has a passion for all kinds of music. I perform a variety of genres including chamber, orchestral, and solo music, as well avant-garde. In 2015 I graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor's degree in clarinet performance. While at North Texas, I performed in a number of ensembles including the UNT Symphonic Band, and the Symphony Orchestra. In 2021 I graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University with a Master's of Music in clarinet performance. While at IU I was principal clarinet in the Wind Ensemble band, and also performed a number of operatic productions with the orchestras. I also participated in many chamber music concerts, premiering works by talented composers from around the world.
I have a diverse portfolio of performance experiences ranging from large ensembles to chamber music, and from solo recitals to new music premiers. Professionally, I have worked as a freelance musician across the country playing holiday ceremonies to pops concerts, and various other recordings projects. Diversifying my playing experiences has helped me to be a well rounded and knowledgeable performer, that I impart to my students. During my undergraduate degree at the University of North Texas, I frequently performed chamber music with my colleagues in the surrounding community and discussed the importance of music in schools.
Each one of my students receives highly individualized and personalized lesson plans. I work closely with the student (and/or their parent) to discuss their goals and aspirations for clarinet lessons. From these discussions I will develop personalized lesson plans to help them reach their goals. In all of my lessons I emphasize the use of fundamentals to develop technique. Without the proper foundation it is impossible to develop the skills necessary to become successful clarinetists. I have a wide variety of method books and pedagogical materials on hand that I give my students to help them develop various aspects of clarinet playing including stability of tone, articulation, and finger technique. I also teach fundamental music theory to my students to further develop their breadth of musical knowledge.
Learning to play the clarinet can be an immensely fun and rewarding experience! As a teacher, it is my goal to share my love for music with my students so they too can develop a passion for it. I provide my students with the strong fundamentals that are necessary to developing musical skills and to becoming a successful clarinetist. Furthermore, I believe that if I can teach my students to analyze their playing like I analyze my own, they will become motivated self teachers and life-long learners.
Mr. Jack K provided a fantastic experience for me as the student! I came in not knowing any specific goals, just knowing I wanted to get better and he was able to meet me where I was and helped me to develop a detailed plan for my improvement. He addressed all aspects of my playing in a way that was easily understandable and his feedback was easily applicable. Each lesson I had with him was positive, and I always left ready to practice for the next one!
