Bachelor Degree: Rowan University
Jacob began his musical fruition at the age of 8 years old, after being inspired by listening to Rock N’ Roll and being surrounded by a family of musicians. He later went on to perform with cover bands in an array of musical academies across venues in New York and New Jersey; most notably The Cutting Room, McLoone’s Supper Club, The Stone Pony, House of Independence, and many more. After years of being taught by professional musicians, band instructors, and guitar teachers, he became dedicated to his inner-musical obligation and received his degree from Rowan University; studying Music Industry of Technology and minoring in Human Resource Management. With his degree, Jacob continues to teach music as well as produce music of his own for himself and clients as an audio engineer. Stylistically, Jacob is influenced by classic rock, singer/songwriters, blues, and classical music.
My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, continued throughout my college experience, and is my current part time job at numerous music schools. I use a combination of determining where the student is currently at, areas the student wants to to improve, and my own profession assessment of where a great place for the student to begin would be in our lessons. Every student learns differently, so that's why he adapts to all situations and ensures his students are given the tools and knowledge they need in order to reach their full musical potential.
While students arrive to my lessons with an array of different skills, I always make sure they have the fundamentals of music down; such as keeping a consistent rhythm and ensuring the notes choices are harmonically pleasing and intentional based on the piece. Making sure the student is learning what they enjoy learning as well as what I feel are the necessary next steps to improve their skills are essential in the learning process no matter what age the student is. My curriculum is always tailored we to the students needs and wants as it pertains to their musical endeavor.
When I give students pieces, exercises, and examples to improve their skills, it is crucial that they not only enjoy what they’re playing but are able to apply it to other areas in their musical vocabulary. From my experience, I have noticed this excites the students the most because they are able to grasp the information in terms of “how to play” as opposed to “what to play”. When a student feels accomplished, they are more likely to practice and have the mindset of practicing to be more of a personal decision rather than a requirement. Practicing is always made out to be fun and never a chore. Again, I always tailor my lessons to the students needs and wants are as it pertains to their musical endeavor.
