Jacob R. is a guitarist from Bushkill Pennsylvania. An alumnus from the Tell School of Music in Millersville, he has worked in the music scene in the Lancaster area as an event coordinator and an assistant studio engineer. He's been playing guitar for 10 years playing musicals in Lancaster, Ephrata, and commercial band ensembles at the Tell School of Music. My favorite guitar players are Jack White, Sean Watkins, and Alex Lifeson. My favorite genres are rock, blues, alternative, and progressive bluegrass.
I have been teaching online/in person for over two years in Downington PA, Reading PA, and Lancaster PA. My mix of music theory essentials and real world application makes learning not only fresh every lesson but excels your skills most efficiently. I always want what’s best for my student to make sure they are having a fun time while also feel like they are progressing to where they want to go. Learning music myself I didn’t feel that experience most of the time so I incorporate everything that I learned to make the most optimal experience.
I generally start with Hal Leonard Guitar Methods book one for beginners for basic music theory. This will teach the ins and outs of how music works and how to apply it to any music you are approaching no matter the genre. While we go through the books, we will incorporate music that the student wants to learn. We will breakdown why the music is the way it is and work up from the bottom how to play those songs. What’s important to me is that I make a personalized plan for each student to make them succeed as efficiently as possible.
Music is supposed to be fun. I love to incorporate actually playing music as much as possible and keep exercises to a minimum. This keeps lessons fresh and gives them a sense of progression. I’m laid back as a person and put that in my teaching but I am focused and consistent. I was a beginner at one time as well and understand the frustrations of beginning a new instrument. Knowing this I want to incorporate music that students like to feel like they are a part of the music they are playing.
