Tiffin University Music Scholarship
I am a very passionate and caring person that has a love for music. I've been playing music for most of my life, and have been playing bass for 21 years. I was offered a music scholarship to Tiffin University. Currently, I am currently at Purdue Fort Wayne as a songwriting and performance major. I am well versed in a wide array of styles of music and have had the opportunity to tour with 2 reginal bands for many years. Examples of things you will learn with me: -Technique's on how to learn your favorite songs. -Techniques to improve you playing -Your tile. How to read all types of music. (Sheet, Chord Charts, Tabs, and Nashville Number) there will not be a musician you can't play with. -Fun solo technique's
I began teaching students when I was in college. Students that were not part of the music program approached me about improving their skills on the bass. They would visit my dorm and I would give them advice on technique, misic to play, and people to listen to to help them improve their playing. This helped me be critical on my own skills and helped me improve my understanding in music theory. After I was done with school I taught students privately from time to time. Most of my experience comes from being on the road and being a musician. Learning to be an adaptable musician has lead me to meeting and playing with hundreds of musicians. Being adaptable is the most important thing I leaned as both a teacher and a musician.
The first thing to learn as a bass player is developing a good technique. The bass is a large instrument with big stings and can be tough to play. Many develop bad habits. Teaching proper technique can eliminate bad habits, and facilate proper playing. While teaching technique, learning note, the fingerboard, and music theory is the next step. Learning to read music is very important as well. There are many other means of communication when playing music, many guitar players and drummers do not know how to play music so understanding how to read tabs, chord charts, and the Nashville number system will be essential to a bass players success. Like I mentioned in my experience section learning to be adaptable as a bass player is essential.
I want to prepare each student for the real world. I want to learn what each student wants to do with with in their musical career. Whether it is simply be a band with there friends, play live in a cover band or original band, or go to college with the goals to become a professional, I am here to put together a program of techniques, theory, and, music that will cater to there specific needs. Being a bass player can be very rewarding. If you put in the work it can lead to work in everything from a standard rock band, to jazz groups and musical theater. Learning is fun and I am excited to help students achieve their goals.
As a bass teacher my goal is to help the student get a grasp of good technique, reading in all the different types of music that they could encounter, understand the role of the bass in the band, and have fun doing it. In my opinion there is no greater joy than music.
