Bachelor Degree: Concordia University Ann Arbor
I am a piano instructor, performer, composer, and scholar who loves is passionate about sharing my knowledge, abilities, and love for music with my students. I graduated from Concordia University Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with a specialization in piano. I have performed as a soloist for over 15 years, and have accompanied soloists of other instruments, as well as been in bands and ensembles for 8 years. I have performed at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, and have a classical repertoire containing pieces by Bach, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Debussy, Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, and many other notable composers.
I started teaching piano in 2015 at a small private studio. I learned to navigate teaching students of different ages and abilities. Sharing a love for music with my students was one of the greatest joys I have experienced in this field. In college, I gave piano lessons to students who were getting music degrees or performance degrees in other instruments and I interned as a music teacher at an elementary/middle school. I have learned from these experiences how to teach children, teenagers, college students, and adults, as well as students of all levels. Each student deserves and should be given unique and specialized treatment, lesson plans, and feedback to help them as needed.
I will present different methods and goals to each student and each lesson depending on their level, availability, and goals. If a student is a young beginner, the most important thing is simply to grow their love of music. For an intermediate adult, I will present new challenges to eliminate weaknesses and grow strengths that also still encourage fun. If a student is taking lessons to become a college or professional pianist, I will introduce repertoire, music theory, music history, and techniques that will be crucial information and skills to advance in the competitive world of piano.
I believe the most important things about teaching piano is to make important things fun and fun things important. I like to personalize each lesson to fit specific needs and goals of students individually. One of the best rewards in music is seeing my students grow in ability, as well as enjoying their lessons. I bring positivity and encouragement to every lesson so that my students can thrive and progress while also having fun. My teaching style is to assess and meet needs fluidly and easily so that every student is unique and special in their own way.
